Meet David

David moved to Yellowknife not knowing what to expect and quickly fell in love with the City and the Northwest Territories. This page will help you get to know David better but if you still have any questions please don’t hesitate to call, send an e-mail or even stop and say hello as he is walking in the neighbourhood knocking on doors.

Growing up in Southern Ontario, from a young age David liked solving problems. When he was 13 he started his first company, Cronos Systems, selling computer/networking hardware and then moving into consulting services. Throughout high school, David balanced having a company and being involved in a number of activities within the school and the community. After moving to New Brunswick to attend the University of New Brunswick and study Computer Science and History, David made a stop in Ontario before his family made the move north in 2008.

Moving from the information technology sector into the public service five years ago was a rewarding career choice and something that meant a lot to David. Coordinating strategic transportation policy for the Government of Ontario and being responsible for transportation policy for the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Transportation provided an in-depth look at the inner workings of Government.

David has been amazed at the impact one person can have in the North. Since making the North his home, he has taken an active role in a number of organizations including:

  • Men for Change NWT, organizing the White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women
  • NWT Montessori Society Board of Directors
  • The City of Yellowknife Wrestling and Boxing Commission
  • Smart Communities Society, an organization delivering computers to schools and providing technology training opportunities for youth across the NWT
  • The Military Family Resource Centre Advisory Committee, working to provide resources and support to build a military community north of 60.

David also found time to curl, play volleyball, and travel to a number of northern communities. Seeing how much one person can give back and work to make our territory a leading jurisdiction in the North and across Canada, drove him to put his name forward for MLA in this election.

David lives in Yellowknife with his daughter Lily, and will be making the Range Lake area his new home in the coming weeks.
