Let’s Do Better
This campaign is all about making sure our next Government does things better. The 17th Legislative Assembly needs to show leadership, more common sense and a better approach to respecting tax payers. Below are a few of the ways that we can do things better.
Serving the Public
- Encourage a client-centred focus by developing a one-window approach to delivering services to individuals and businesses for GNWT programs.
- Respect tax payer’s time and effort by introducing guaranteed timelines for issuing permits, licences and other service requests.
- Use best practices from the public and private sectors across Canada to provide excellence in service delivery.
Building the Economy
- Develop sustainable industries and jobs that are not based on single companies or projects.
- More effectively engage the Federal Government so we can become major partner in development and establish a foundation for growth.
- Take a long-term leadership role with industry and work with them to ensure their investments provide lasting benefits.
- Be open for business by reducing the red tape involved in working locally.
- Build the necessary power, telecommunication, and transportation infrastructure to make the NWT the best place to invest in Canada.
Connecting Our People
- By developing reliable, fast and affordable access to modern communications we will improve our quality of life and ability to do business.
- Improving our connectivity will enable innovative healthcare and education solution delivery.
- Having the tools isn’t enough, we need to provide training opportunities so that Northerners can fill existing and future high tech job needs.
Accountability and Openness
- As a consensus style of Government, we need to be more open about how decisions are made and how our tax dollars are spent.
- Rather than trying to hide information, we need a Government that will provide it openly.
- Staff at all levels should be accountable and encouraged to bring forward new and innovative ways of doing business and saving money.
Social Responsibility
- Continual investments are needed to improve our education system and curriculum so our young people are leaders across the country.
- Work with parents and families to get them involved in education and continue holding educators and students to our high standards.
- Make us healthier by developing preventative care so medical problems can stop before they begin.
- Poverty and homelessness are problems in every community and need solutions, not just strategies. We need to treat the causes rather than just the symptoms.
