So there you have it!

Posted on by David

So, the results came in and it was a pretty close race but in the end I was a few votes (67) short. The support and votes I did get means a lot to me, the 210 votes I received shows that a lot of people here in Range Lake put an X beside my name and believed in me.

That being said, I want to thank everyone for all your support. Big thank yous to everyone that supported me by going out to vote, everyone that helped out on my campaign, and to the other candidates running here in Range Lake (and all across the territory). It was a good race and I had a lot of fun meeting all of my new neighbours here in Range Lake. To those running, especially those doing it for the first time, it really takes a lot to put your name forward and get involved so thank you for all doing just that – voters need choices and there were many good choices.

My biggest disappointment is that more people didn’t come out to vote. Over the next four years I think all Yellowknifers need to figure out what’s wrong with our political system that makes people stay home. Hopefully for the next election we can double the number of voters coming out and voting.

Thank you again to everyone that helped out on the campaign and those that went out and voted. Campaigns like this take a lot of time and effort and it’s really appreciated.

Now that the campaign is over, let’s get these folks who are going to be in the 17th Assembly working. We need a lot of action and there’s only 1460 days left.

In the next litte while I’ll be revamping this website to decampaign it and make it something I can use going forward! Stay tuned for those changes and in the meantime please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Congratulations to all of those that were successful in the election this fall, you’ve been given a very important duty and I hope you all make the best of it – good luck.

Cheers!

Radio Silence…

Posted on by David

So, as per Elections NWT instructions all of us candidates are going radio silent at midnight tonight. This campaign has been quite a ride so far and still has another exciting day (well two days if you count Monday) ahead. There won’t be any posting on here, or Facebook, or Twitter until after the polls close on Monday evening at 8pm. I’ve met a lot of my neighbours here in Range Lake over the past few weeks and had some great conversations. If anyone has any questions or would like some more information please give me a call at 446-3059 or send me an e-mail at david@wasylciw.com and I’d be happy to have a chat.

Forums/Debates

Posted on by David

So the forums have now wrapped up and it looks like all the candidates have survived. Personally, I really enjoyed them. I just wish there had been more time for some back and forth to really get into some responses. If you missed out on the forums you can watch them over the internet at the links below. There might be a lot of waiting to hear the candidates you’re curious about or for the question you wanted to hear but all in all they were interesting and informative.

A lot of people have asked about riding level debates and forums. While they didn’t happen for this year’s election, in the future it would be a really great idea. For ridings with a number of candidates, or even those with just a couple, it would really give residents a chance to compare and contrast their choices while letting the candidates have a more fluid discussion on their platform/policies. Sounds like a win for everyone, eh? Hopefully we can get some arranged for the next election (although that’s a ways off).

Questions and Answers…

Posted on by David

Throughout the campaign many different organizations submit a series of questions to candidates to determine their position of issues ranging from women’s issues to naturopathic medicine to midwifery to devolution. Each questionnaire is important and gives candidates an opportunity to explain their point of view on the issues. However, since many of the organizations publish candidate’s responses in local newspapers there are some pretty strict word limits. Well, you can imagine how restrictive 30, 75 or even 100 word limits are for hopeful MLAs when trying to discuss the serious issues in our territory. As a result of this, I will be posting the extended version of my responses to this website (almost like a Director’s Cut Blu-ray DVD except without the surround sound and high definition picture). You’ll find my answers (and copies of the questions) linked from both this blog post and the News & Events tab on this website.

Tonight, I’m posting my responses to Ecology North, and the Status of Women Council. I’ll get the rest posted soon.

If you have any questions about any of my responses please send me an e-mail (david@wasylciw.com) or give me a call at 446-3059.

Thanks!
